Appalachia Service Project (ASP)

 This will be Haygood’s 40th year!  July 24-31, 2021
Do you want to be a difference maker? Are you eager to grow in God’s vision for transforming lives? Join us this summer as we grow in our understanding of how God works to “Complete” us.
ASP is a home repair ministry, founded by a Methodist Minister in 1969, with a mission to make homes in Central Appalachia warmer, safer and drier. You can go to ASPHome.org to find out more. It is open to youth ages 13 and have completed the 8th grade and up and adults of any age.  For those who volunteer this year, there are several new requirements. If you are 65 or older, or have underling health conditions you will have to have had a COVID vaccine. For those under 65 you will have to have a negative COVID test four days before we leave on the trip. The centers we stay in will allow for proper social distance guidelines. The staff will have received their vaccines and the families whose homes we work on will have the same vaccine and testing requirements as our volunteers.

If you are going, go to the ASP web site, asphome.org and register. If you follow this path it should work. Click on Volunteer, then participant center, then sign in if you have previously created an account or create one if you have not. Then you will want to join a group. Our group # is 9681. Make sure it says Haygood. Another change for this year is that all forms will be completed on line and you dont have to get them notarized!! There should be two forms:  Sign Trip Agreement and fill out  Medical forms.
If you are interested in going or finding out more information you can contact Marie Porter at 757-513-7716 or hgyouthministry@verizon.net, Mike LaRock at 757-761-0070 or mikelarock@aol.com. You can also contact Randy Carlson at 757-373-3067 or randecarl@yahoo.com.
